PRC Ministry: Keeping Pace with the Heart of God

Updated: Nov 4, 2019

Scripture records that Jesus entered this world as a child conceived in the womb of Mary. The Holy Spirit’s power and Jesus’ presence sanctified the womb and demonstrated that life is present at conception and throughout a mother’s pregnancy. Scripture even states that God sees us while we are in the womb. While in the womb of his mother Elizabeth, John the baptizer leaped at the presence of Jesus in Mary’s womb (Luke 1.39-45). God emphasized to the prophet Jeremiah that God knew him even before he was formed in the womb, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations” (Jer. 1.5).

The Scriptural emphasis on the sacredness of life translates not only to a pro-life theology but also to the inclusion of anti-abortion work in the Church’s mission in the world. To promote life means to work against abortions occurring, because abortions end a human life and oppose the work of God in the womb and in the world. Abortions are ultimately destructive for all the people involved.

The ministry of pregnancy resource centers (PRC’s) exists on the front lines of the spiritual battle between life and death, light and darkness, and the kingdom of God and the kingdom of evil. PRC staff face contentious opposition from those who earnestly support abortion and often aggressively assert their positions. The intensity of this ministry in the lives of the staff and volunteers can sometimes be unfathomable. Their passion for their clients and for seeing parents choose life is matched only by the stressful challenges of their work.

The folks serving in the ministries of PRC’s come to the ministry with various backgrounds and levels of Christian maturity. What they have in common is the impact of experiencing the stress of this ministry that can undermine their spiritual well-being and capabilities to sustain the ministry that they love.

“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

God’s desire is to see PRC’s thrive in their purpose of saving babies from death by abortion and saving the mothers, fathers, and families from the correlated heartaches and consequences. The success of PRC’s aligns with the work of God’s kingdom and his handiwork in the world. Developing and practicing spiritual disciplines and wisdom specifically in light of the ministry are essential for the PRC staff. Taking steps toward further spiritual formation for those in the PRC ministries assures more fruitful and peaceful ministry.
